His Self

Physical Appearance

Height: 6'2"
Haircolor: Dark brown
Eye color: Bright blue/grey
Weight: Between 180 and 190lbs
Memorable marks: Scars in various stages of healing, and skin covered from neck to toes in tattoos (listed below).

Description: Leo is tall but fairly lean. Even with years of working regularly and staying fit, his body is very compact and hard, not exceedingly muscular. He has bright blue/grey eyes, dark brown hair, a strong jaw and strong cheekbones. His eyes are deeper set and thus appear quite dark and shadowed, making the color of his irises stand out more, and his stare incredibly intense. He has a very distinctive broken-looking Roman nose.

His most distinctive feature is that he's covered in tattoos, most of which were done in prison and most of which are gang tattoos or hold some meaning within the Russian prison and criminal system of the Soviet Union. There isn't a single tattoo that doesn't have some sort of significance and they are not private stories, as they are meant as status symbols (there are a couple of exceptions and he will not explain them).

Despite the fact that he dresses well and looks sharp, he has a rough, hardened appearance that gives away the sort of life he leads.

His wings are slightly grey.

Personality

He has a very strong temper and is very violent and incredibly solitary. He has both sympathy and empathy but avoids showing either. However, he is also quite passionate and caring, too caring for someone in his profession, which means that he goes out of his way not to make any connections with anyone at all, as this would risk their lives and his own.

He has a sense of humor, but that doesn't shine through, either. He appears very calculated and silent, almost a little slow and overly-controlled. To get him to react is quite difficult, and can feel like trying to coax a brick wall to fall down on its own.

He comes off as incredibly impersonal and cold because he shows very little emotion.

Interests and Uncategorized Facts

Being a part of the Russian mafia means that Leo follows the code of the vory to a t. He cannot afford any mistakes and does not allow for them to happen. He has been in prison numerous times and always resisted cooperating, meaning that he was usually in solitary confinement or on punishment blocks.

He is not above murder, but he will never rape (which has caused him some conflict in the past). He is a very skilled fighter, trained in different styles of hand-to-hand combat, as well as firearm and knife use, because he cannot die and thus takes risks that most people would avoid.

According to the life he has chosen, he has no family and no friends and only sleeps with prostitutes (not his favorite thing, but he goes for blondes).

He has been stuck in an obsession with the only person he has ever fallen in love with. Her name and her face have been tattooed on his body, though these were not done in prison. He chooses not to get over her because he will never love anyone again and does not want to forget what it feels like. Being in love with her has also fueled his disconnect from the rest of the world because he will never have her--she is, as far as he knows, married and a mother and was engaged to be married when he knew her.

He speaks both Russian and English and other Eastern European languages, though he hasn't used his English much over the last twenty years. Though is grammar is fine, his accent is incredibly heavy and he speaks somewhat quietly.

He also boxes. Why? Because it's what people of his profession do sometimes. Of course, he enjoys illegal boxing matches more and he usually wins. So you can sometimes find him with wrapped hands and that's also hot.

His Life

Leo was born to an angel father and a mortal mother. His mother, Ekaterina (or Katya), was the dominant member of the family, lording over her husband and son with her Bible and strict Russian Orthodox beliefs. Konstantin kept his true nature hidden from his wife at all times and tolerated her to a point, but he worked and she didn't and his time away from her was all that kept him sane.

Katya taught Leo until he was seven, then sent him to public schools because he was too much of a handful. Leo was very fidgety and passive aggressive, especially since he didn't like to go to church or to listen to Bible stories. It was his father who would pick him up after school and teach him all about what they were and that the things his mother held as truths were not necessarily true at all, but not to argue with her. To respect her, because all mothers deserve respect.

Unfortunately, Leo's first manifestations were witnessed by his mother, who believed she had a miracle on her hands. She wanted desperately to show their son to the church and to make money using him, as they were quite poor, but Konstantin refused to let her. It was quite likely that he would end up in the hands of government and not the church. There was one major close call where Katya discovered her husband shared her son's abilities and immediately got the attention of a priest, but Konstantin and Leo fled to Leningrad, leaving Katya behind.

Konstantin and his son were very poor and lived in a very tiny flat. Leo began to steal to make living without so much as heat bearable. He lied, telling his father that he had a job at a market, but Konstantin quickly realized the truth. Leo didn't care, but kept what he stole a secret. As a teenager, he became a member of a local gang, and, frustrated, Konstantin threatened to move them both unless Leo stop acting so dangerously.

Unfortunately, Leo was arrested for theft. Between the ages of fourteen and nineteen, he was in and out of jail and prison numerous times, but by the time he was seventeen, his dreams were different and he left home for good, cutting of contact with his father because the code he now adhered to wouldn't allow it. Leo was a thief in law, one of the vory v zakone. His crimes and theft escalated to murder and armed robberies, blackmarket trade and dangerous contacts.

He had enemies and friends, if his friends didn't become enemies, and was highly respected for his ability to recover from the most impossible injuries. By the time he was twenty, Leo had already been shot, stabbed, beaten, and drowned on numerous occasions, always playing dead until the enemy left, and on one occasion choosing to scare the living daylights out of the attackers by rising to his feet. Coupled with his personality, Leo became a favorite of one of the crime families in Leningrad. This family was targeting the Fitzwilliam Diamond Company mines in Russia.

At the age of twenty four, he met a then-twenty-year-old Claire Fitzwilliam, who was dancing with the Kirov Ballet in Leningrad for a season. She could speak very little Russian, but Leo had learned English some years earlier. He formed a bond with her despite knowing he shouldn't, as she had a tendency to take walks on her own through the snowy streets, and when he realized that her last name was indeed Fitzwilliam, things started to become complicated. There was to be a robbery and attack on the Fitzwilliam diamond mines in Russia, with the eventual hope of getting the attention of the CEO of the company (Leo found out this was Claire's own father and had a minor heart attack) and either using him for ransom or killing him for the fun of it. The family he worked for wanted to control FDC. Controlling FDC would gain control of all of the regulations and dozens of mines across the globe. Billions of dollars. Power in workers and advanced security.

Clearly, this posed a problem.

Indeed, the second problem was that Leo was very much in love with her, and she was engaged to John Driscoll. She had also told him about Jack Camden, the first serious boyfriend and love she ever had. Out of respect for her, he not only kept his feelings private, he did nothing to compromise her. He needed her as much as she needed him, though her affections were not quite the same, and after a few months of walks and chats no one knew about, Leo realized he had to end it. He was losing his touch, finding himself too distracted, and he began to sever communication with her. He never told her what he did, as it was against the code, but she had a vague idea that it wasn't very safe. Her constant questions made it harder to keep in touch.

He disappeared repeatedly, always coming back, once confronting her so roughly he slammed her up against a wall. After disappearing again, he began to realize that he wasn't going to make it on his own anymore, not as one of the vory or as anything else in the business. He was too enamored and affected by Claire. After seeing her one last time, though not really wanting to, he crawled into her dreams and shared one very intimate moment--but fell asleep and fell into a nightmare that Claire partly shared. When he woke, she was still asleep, and horrified with his own slip up, Leo fled and never saw her again.

He allowed himself to be caught and arrested and was imprisoned from June of 1988 to January of 2008, without any interest in ever leaving again, though he was in solitary confinement for most of the years.

Until he started to become restless.

In January of 2008, the prison camp closed. Those in solitary would be moved first, but the night before it happened, Leo broke out in a great display of wings and magic. The inmates there already feared him due to the fact that he had not aged in twenty years, and the sight of him flying from the property only caused more chaos. The news was hushed as quickly as it leaked, and then suppressed before it could make headlines.

Back in St. Petersburg, it did not take him long to find old contacts and to meet a prominent boss in the vory, a former KGB officer who had used his inside contacts to destroy everything the KGB tried to do. Simply because Leo was, according to rumor and clear fact, invincible, they couldn't turn him away. He shifted to a new family that owns several banks across Russia and England and also traffics illegal weapons on the black market in an effort to penetrate other countries with their influence. Leo works in the weapons trade, inspecting and assessing the word of the people who sell or buy the weapons, and as a hitman, two of his old jobs.

In the months following his escape, he once again quickly rose to the closest non-familial confidante in the family and traveled to England to keep an eye on the family's oldest son, who is newly in charge of a bank there. For over a year, he has gone back and forth, doing a great deal of damage at every turn.
